rom 1990 to 2000, the Blue Point professionals made private equity investments
as Key Equity Capital, an affiliate of KeyCorp, one of the 10 largest banks
in the U.S. Established in 1990 with a single office in Cleveland, we grew to
be one of the most prominent middle market private equity firms in the Midwest
region of the United States. We strongly believe that living and working in the
region in which we invest is critical to finding attractive investment
opportunities and working closely with management to help our companies grow.
This strategy has been successfully replicated in the Pacific Coast (1996) and
Southeast (1998), where Blue Point has become one of the more significant sources
of resident private equity capital to the middle market in each of these regions.
Our approach has been validated through experience — we have a strong track
record of investing in and growing businesses in our regional markets.
 In 2000,
the entire investment team of Key Equity Capital spun out and formed Blue Point
Capital Partners, with the support and investment of KeyCorp. Blue Point Capital
Partners Fund, L.P. was closed in mid-2002. Investors in Blue Point include leading
U.S. endowments, pension funds, family offices, financial institutions and several
prominent foreign investment funds.
In 2004, Blue Point established an office in Shanghai, China as a resource to assist
its existing and future portfolio companies in evaluating and executing cross-border
strategies. Large multinationals recognized the opportunity from globalization years
ago and had the management and financial resources to capture that opportunity. It is
our strong belief that mid-sized leaders have these same opportunities, but many lack
the resources to execute the strategy needed. By identifying these opportunities and
providing the capital and expertise needed to execute cross-border strategies, we can
invest in and accelerate the growth of mid-sized businesses.
In August of 2007, Blue Point Capital Partners II was closed with capital commitments
of $400 million. Today, the Blue Point team has more than 150 years of investment
experience among its team of more than 20 professionals across four offices. |
